Taking the passenger ferry to Waiheke Island
Waiheke Island is a quick 40 minute passenger ferry ride from downtown Auckland with Fuller’s ferries. For more information and a Waiheke timetable, visit the Fullers website.
Please note that during PEAK times (Friday-Sunday and public holidays) there is much demand for ferry services so we recommend arriving at least 45 mins before your scheduled sailing.
Can I bring my car or bike over?
Sealink offers a vehicle ferry service from Half Moon Bay ferry terminal or from Wynyard Quarter, Auckland City daily to Kennedy Point ferry terminal on Waiheke Island. The scenic trip takes either 45 minutes or 60 minutes from Half Moon Bay and 60 or 80 minutes from Wynyard Quarter. Vehicle bookings are recommended in advance to secure preferred timings. For a full timetable or for more information please visit sealink.co.nz.
Please make your way to the Pavilion at Matiatia where there is parking, and catch the headland shuttle bus to the beginning of the walk. Please do not drive to the start of the walk as there is restricted parking in the vicinity.
Where can I park my car?
Parking is restricted along Nick Johnstone Drive so please follow all signposted instructions. This is really important so that buses can turn around safely. We appreciate your assistance.
The best option is to get dropped off at the start of the walk, or make your way to the 48 hour car park at Matiatia and then catch the headland shuttle bus from the Pavilion which will take you to the beginning of the walk. Or alternatively, leave your car at home and take the bus to the ferry terminal!
How does the shuttle bus work?
The headland Shuttle will leave the Pavilion (look for directional signage or talk to one of our volunteers) at regular intervals seven days a week. The bus will take you to the start of the walkway at the end of Nick Johnstone Drive. The first shuttle bus will depart at 9.10am. The last shuttle bus will depart at 6.00pm. In peak times there will be a bus every 10-15 mins.
The headland Shuttle costs $5 for adults and $3.00 for children. Please purchase your tickets from the Fullers ticket office in Auckland and at Matiatia.
Can I bring my bike over?
Yes – you can bring your bicycle over on both the Fullers and Sealink ferries. The exhibition walk is not suitable for bikes, however, bike racks are available at the ferry terminal, so you can enjoy the walk and then explore the Island, by bike, if you have some spare time. Don’t forget to bring your own chain and lock.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes – you can so long as it is on a lead at all times.
Please note, dogs are allowed on the headland Shuttle but this is at the driver’s discretion particularly during weekends, public holidays and busy periods.
